Scary video - Sinkhole swallows cars in China !!!

A major avenue crossing in downtown Ruijin, southeast China’s Jiangxi Province, collapsed earlier today, damaging cars on the roadside。

When a part of the road and sidewalk suddenly sunk, it created a three-meter deep crater, swallowing four cars, leaving the fifth one hanging on the edge of the road. The 30-square-meter wide sinkhole also swallowed a tree.

Americans spend most time on the internet

Figures for March show the US leading the way for time spent online, with the average user spending almost an hour a day surfing.

Americans spend more time surfing the internet than anyone else in the world, with users clocking up an average of nearly 28 hours a month.

This obsession with the net sees Americans spending almost double the amount of time online than users in Australia.
The data, from Nielsen Online, shows the rest of the world has yet to become quite so fixated with the world wide web.
Europe lags behind, with the French spending just under 20 hours connected to the net.
Spain comes in third with the average Spaniard spending just under 18 hours online.

Users in the UK spend 17 and a half hours online, just above Germany and Italy on 16 hours.
But the US may soon see another nation vying for the top spot however.
China has overtaken the West in its love of the internet and is now home to more internet users than the US.
The comparatively unfettered internet, while still subject to certain amounts of censorship, is proving more attractive to Chinese than ever, with 61 per cent more people going online in the past year.
There were more than 221 million Chinese online at the end of February, compared to the 137 million surfing at the start of 2007.
Video-sharing websites are the most popular.

Suzuki to introduce more fuel-efficient engine for its minicars in Japan

Suzuki Motor Corp. plans to introduce an all-new engine for its minicars for the first time in roughly 16 years. This 660cc engine is expected to deliver a fuel efficiency of 27 km/L (63.5 mpg US, 3.7 L/100km) when combined with an idle-stop system—an improvement of about 20% over the current offering.
This would enable Suzuki minicars to achieve a fuel economy comparable to that offered by Daihatsu Motor Co.’s new Move, which hit the market last month. Suzuki plans to invest a total of 20 billion yen [US$246 million] over three years to retool its Sagara factory in Shizuoka Prefecture to make the new engine.
All future versions of the company’s minicars, including the Wagon R and the Alto, will eventually be powered by the engine. The first to feature it will be the new MR Wagon, slated for launch this month.

Brilliant poem on pronunciation

Brilliant poem on pronunciation

HERE'S A POEM THAT THE WELL KNOWN MEDIA PERSON PRANNOY ROY SENT TO ALL HIS TEAM OF NDTV 24x7, WITH THE FOLLOWING WORDS:
If you can correctly pronounce every word in this poem, you will be speaking English better than 90% of the native English speakers in the world.

SO I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT YOU READ THIS LONG POEM ALOUD, SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY, WHEN YOU HAVE TIME. DO IT AS A FUN EXERCISE, AND NOTE DOWN THE 2 OR 3 NEW WORDS,TO CHECK THEIR PRONUNCIATION LATER.

Dearest creature in creation,
Study English pronunciation.
I will teach you in my verse
Sounds like corpse, corps, horse, and worse.
I will keep you, Suzy, busy,
Make your head with heat grow dizzy.
Tear in eye, your dress will tear.
So shall I! Oh hear my prayer.
Just compare heart, beard, and heard,
Dies and diet, lord and word,
Sword and sward, retain and Britain.
(Mind the latter, how it's written.)
Now I surely will not plague you
With such words as plaque and ague.
But be careful how you speak:
Say break and steak, but bleak and streak;
Cloven, oven, how and low,
Script, receipt, show, poem, and toe.
Hear me say, devoid of trickery,
Daughter, laughter, and Terpsichore,
Typhoid, measles, topsails, aisles,
Exiles, similes, and reviles;
Scholar, vicar, and cigar,
Solar, mica, war and far;
One, anemone, Balmoral,
Kitchen, lichen, laundry, laurel;
Gertrude, German, wind and mind,
Scene, Melpomene, mankind.
Billet does not rhyme with ballet,
Bouquet, wallet, mallet, chalet.
Blood and flood are not like food,
Nor is mould like should and would.
Viscous, viscount, load and broad,
Toward, to forward, to reward.
And your pronunciation's OK
When you correctly say croquet,
Rounded, wounded, grieve and sieve,
Friend and fiend, alive and live.
Ivy, privy, famous; clamour
And enamour rhyme with hammer.
River, rival, tomb, bomb, comb,
Doll and roll and some and home.
Stranger does not rhyme with anger,
Neither does devour with clangour.
Souls but foul, haunt but aunt,
Font, front, wont, want, grand, and grant,
Shoes, goes, does. Now first say finger,
And then singer, ginger, linger,
Real, zeal, mauve, gauze, gouge and gauge,
Marriage, foliage, mirage, and age.
Query does not rhyme with very,
Nor does fury sound like bury.
Dost, lost, post and doth, cloth, loth.
Job, nob, bosom, transom, oath.
Though the differences seem little,
We say actual but victual.
Refer does not rhyme with deafer.
Foeffer does, and zephyr, heifer.
Mint, pint, senate and sedate;
Dull, bull, and George ate late.
Scenic, Arabic, Pacific,
Science, conscience, scientific.
Liberty, library, heave and heaven,
Rachel, ache, moustache, eleven.
We say hallowed, but allowed,
People, leopard, towed, but vowed.
Mark the differences, moreover,
Between mover, cover, clover;
Leeches, breeches, wise, precise,
Chalice, but police and lice;
Camel, constable, unstable,
Principle, disciple, label.
Petal, panel, and canal,
Wait, surprise, plait, promise, pal.
Worm and storm, chaise, chaos, chair,
Senator, spectator, mayor.
Tour, but our and succour, four.
Gas, alas, and Arkansas.
Sea, idea, Korea, area,
Psalm, Maria, but malaria.
Youth, south, southern, cleanse and clean.
Doctrine, turpentine, marine.
Compare alien with Italian,
Dandelion and battalion.
Sally with ally, yea, ye,
Eye, I, ay, aye, whey, and key.
Say aver, but ever, fever,
Neither, leisure, skein, deceiver.
Heron, granary, canary.
Crevice and device and aerie.
Face, but preface, not efface.
Phlegm, phlegmatic, ass, glass, bass.
Large, but target, gin, give, verging,
Ought, out, joust and scour, scourging.
Ear, but earn and wear and tear
Do not rhyme with here but ere.
Seven is right, but so is even,
Hyphen, roughen, nephew Stephen,
Monkey, donkey, Turk and jerk,
Ask, grasp, wasp, and cork and work.
Pronunciation (think of Psyche!)
Is a paling stout and spikey?
Won't it make you lose your wits,
Writing groats and saying grits?
It's a dark abyss or tunnel:
Strewn with stones, stowed, solace, gunwale,
Islington and Isle of Wight,
Housewife, verdict and indict.
Finally, which rhymes with enough,
Though, through, plough, or dough, or cough?
Hiccough has the sound of cup.

The 10 safest countries in the world to visit

Do nightmares of instability or violent political upheaval keep you awake at night?
Do you shudder at the thought of having your wallet brutally taken from you in a seemingly quiet train station?
Do you yearn to travel, but fret over the possibility of a military invasion by a hostile neighbour, or a horrific terrorist attack running your well-laid plans?

Well fear not, worrywarts. Jittery travellers can use good old fashioned statistical analysis to determine the likelihood of such unpleasant occurrences taking place while abroad. Uneasy travellers can mitigate risk by consulting the Global Peace Index prior to choosing their next destination and select a country that can arguably be called one of the 10 safest places on Earth to visit.

Here are 2010's 10 safest countries to visit, displayed in order from safe to safest:

Slovenia

A surprise entry rounding out the top 10, this former Yugoslav republic has transitioned well into the world following the fall of Communism and the Yugoslav Civil War. Wedged between Italy, Austria, Croatia and Hungary, this tiny mountainous nation has experienced a history of dominance by foreign empires. Picturesque alpine villages and great skiing make this nation a hidden gem of European tourism, while boasting low levels of violent crime and being little risk from terrorist attacks.
Finland

The first Nordic nation on the list, Finland is considered one of the most stable countries in the world based on economic, political, social and military indicators. Much like neighbouring Sweden, the landscapes are pristine and forested and Finland's cities are modern and progressive. Here you can experience the nation's rich folk culture in a land where day lasts all night in the summer months. Finland actually boasts a slightly higher homicide rate per 100,000 people when compared with several other nations on this list; however a strong respect for civil liberties, the democratic process and human rights make Finland another safe bet for travellers.

Canada

Despite popular conceptions, the "Great White North" is actually an overwhelmingly urban nation with almost 80% of the population residing in cosmopolitan and diverse cities. As a nation of immigrants, the government pursues a policy of multiculturalism where citizens are encouraged to maintain their traditional values and ways of life. Canada scores well for its appreciation of human rights and tolerance. While Canada also scores high for its low levels of violent crime, it loses points for a perceived ease of " access to weapons of minor destruction". Canada is also considered a more probable target for a terrorist attack based on the nation's participation in the war in Afghanistan and strong ties with the United States and Great Britain.
Japan
Painfully polite Japan boasts ancient temples and futuristic, neon cities. A destination that this author would recommend to any traveller, Japan is at once both hectic and serene. A place where modern Western pop culture is adopted by local youth and made entirely unique, while their grandparents adhere to the ways of the past. Japan scores well on the GPI for extremely low levels of violent crime, and has very strict gun-laws in place. Robberies are almost non-existent when compared to figures from other Westernized, industrial nations - although these statistics have been criticized for being unreported by some watchdog groups.

Sweden
Not unlike the Volvos produced in this peace-loving country, Sweden is indeed very safe. Pristine lakes and forests, and trendy, attractive cities like Stockholm and Gothenburg help Sweden score big with tourists. Sweden also scores big across the board in a number of categories including respect for human rights, low levels of violent crime, political participation and civil liberties. As a major exporter of weapons, the Swedes lose major points on the Global Peace Index and thus falls to 6th place overall. It's still safe to conclude that Sweden is about as safe as it gets.

Austria

The hills are alive with the sound of safety. The land of music and Mozart scores highly for its low levels of violent crime and peaceful relations with neighbours. Austria loses points in the GPI as it is considered slightly less tolerant and respectful of human rights in comparison to the European nations at the top of the list. Visit elegant Vienna, Salzburg or chocolate box-perfect Hallstatt to enjoy the beauty of this touristic treasure. While Austria is considered one of the safest places to visit overall; the same can't be said for the death-defying ski runs at Kitzbühel in the Tyrolean Alps.

Iceland

Home of Björk, geothermal power, glaciers and hot spring, Iceland is another Nordic nation that is considered very safe to visit. This tiny volcanic nation in the North Atlantic Ocean was at one time the world's most developed country - according to the UN, and one of the world's wealthiest per capita. Renowned for its first-rate social welfare system, low levels of violent crime and high respect for human rights, Iceland was hit especially hard by the great recession of 2009 and fell in the rankings due to a higher likelihood of political instability in comparison to the other countries listed here.

Norway

Although a historical homeland of warlike Vikings who ravaged Europe 1000 years ago, today's Kingdom of Norway is a wealthy, prosperous and safe nation. Breathtaking mountain fjords and colorfully-painted fishing villages make Norway a beautiful place to visit. Norway embodies the same high respect for human rights and personal freedoms, religious and cultural tolerance and low crime rates as the other Scandinavian nations on this list. While a combatant in the US-led War in Afghanistan, Norway is considered a low risk for a terrorist attack.

Denmark

Another ancestral home of the Vikings, today Denmark is amongst the safest and most peaceful nations on Earth. Denmark is considered a greater threat for terrorist attacks when compared to New Zealand, thanks in part to the infamous Mohammad cartoons published in a Danish newspaper, and the country's role in the Iraq War. But despite the occasional riot in Copenhagen's slums, the nation remains overwhelmingly safe. A great respect for human rights, high levels of gender equality and low levels of homicide and violent crime make Denmark a very safe and exciting destination.

New Zealand

The "Land of the Long White Cloud" boasts rolling green hills, impressive mountains and icy glaciers. New Zealand is home to modern, multicultural cities such as Auckland and Wellington, and its thriving aboriginal Maori community is active in all facets of society. Flying somewhat under the radar of many travellers, little New Zealand is also a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts and adrenaline junkies The nation is considered the world's safest thanks in part to Kiwi society's high respect for human rights and lack of hostility toward foreigners, along with the low risk of political instability and internal conflict.

Defining Safe

The Global Peace Index (GPI) moves beyond simple crime statistics alone, and looks at the actions of a government, the country's relationships with the world at large, and the attitudes and demographics of its population. 144 Nations are scored yearly using 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators of peacefulness. The index includes the number of homicides per 100,000 people, the potential for being the target of a terrorist attack, level of hostility to foreigners, educational attainment and unemployment rates and several others indicators. While subjectively measuring the world's "most peaceful" nations, the Global Peace Index takes into account many factors associated with personal well-being and safety. The GPI does not factor in natural disasters or "Acts of God" into the equation however, so these must also be considered when debating overall personal safety as well.
Dealing with Risk

Of course nobody can predict the future, and by definition travel involves some inherent risk. These include both statistically improbable  occurrences like your plane going down in the Andes Mountains, to more likely events like being pick-pocketed on a crowded bus. Travelling to the world's safest nations does not guarantee an incident-free trip however. In travel as in life, there are no guarantees. A greater risk in this author's view is letting fear and doubt prevent you from experiencing the World and living your dreams. So travel without fear or impunity, for in all countries - be they considered safe or dangerous, there are adventures to be had, friends to be made, and great life-changing experiences to take advantage of.

2,200-year-old gold coin found in Israel

A rare gold coin dating back more than two millennia to the year 191 BC has been found at a dig in northern Israel, the antiquities authority said on Wednesday.

"The coin is beautiful and in excellent preservation. It is the heaviest gold coin with the highest contemporary value of any coin ever found in an excavation in Israel," Dr Donald T. Ariel, head of the authority's coin department, said in a statement.
The coin weighs almost one ounce (27.71 grams), whereas most ancient gold coins weighed 4.5 grams, he added.
It was minted in Alexandria, Egypt during the reign of Ptolemy V in 191 BC and bears the name of the wife of Ptolemy II, Arsinoe Philadephus (II).
The coin was uncovered at a site at Tel Kedesh near the border with Lebanon by a team of American archaeologists from the universities of Michigan and Minnesota.
"This extraordinary coin was apparently not in popular or commercial use, but had a symbolic function," Ariel said.
"The coin may have had a ceremonial function related to a festival in honour of Queen Arsinoe, who was deified in her lifetime."
Excavations at Tel Kedesh began in 1997 and have uncovered remains of a large Persian-Hellenistic building, complete with reception halls, dining facilities, store rooms and archive, the antiquities authority said.

Car Air-Conditioning and Cancer

No wonder  more folks are dying from cancer than ever before.  We wonder where this stuff comes from but here is an example that explains a  lot of the cancer causing incidents.

Many people  are in their cars first thing in the morning and the last thing at  night, 7 days a week..   As I read this, it makes me feel  guilty and ill.

Please pass this on to as many people as  possible. Guess its not too late to make some  changes Car  A/C (Air Conditioning) MUST  READ!!!

Please  do NOT turn on A/C as soon as you enter the  car.

Open  the  windows after you enter your car and turn ON the AC after  a couple of minutes.

Here's  why:
According  to a research, the car dashboard, sofa, air freshener emit Benzene,  a Cancer causing toxin (carcinogen  - take time to observe the smell of heated plastic in your  car).

In addition to causing cancer, Benzene poisons your bones, causes  anemia and reduces white blood cells.

Prolonged  exposure will cause Leukemia, increasing the risk of  cancer.

Can  also cause miscarriage.

Acceptable  Benzene level indoors is 50mg per sq.ft. A  car parked indoors with windows closed will contain 400-800 mg of  Benzene.

If  parked outdoors under the sun at a temperature above 60 degrees F,  the Benzene level goes up to  2000-4000
2000-4000  mg, 40 times the acceptable  level.

People  who get into the car, keeping windows closed will inevitably inhale,  in quick succession, excessive amounts of the  toxin.

Benzene  is a toxin that affects your kidney and liver.. What's worse, it is  extremely difficult for your body to expel this toxic  stuff.

So  friends, please open the windows and door of your car - give time  for interior to air out -dispel the deadly stuff - before you  enter.

Thought:
'When  someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it,  you have a moral obligation to share it with  others.'

STRAWBERRY QUICK !!!

This is a new drug known as 'strawberry quick '.
There is a very scary thing going on in the schools right now that we all need to be aware of.

There is a type of crystal meth going around that looks like strawberry pop rocks (the candy that sizzles and 'pops' in your mouth). It also smells like strawberry and it is being handed out to kids in school yards. They are calling it strawberry meth or strawberry quick.

Kids are ingesting this thinking that it is candy and being rushed off to the hospital in dire condition. It also comes in chocolate, peanut butter, cola, cherry, grape and orange.

Please instruct your children not to accept candy from strangers and even not to accept candy that looks like this from a friend (who may have been given it and believed it is candy) and to take any that they may have to a teacher, principal, etc. immediately.

Info from Wikipedia -
Strawberry quick meth is a drug scare from 2007. Drug dealers were allegedly using coloring and flavoring to disguise methamphetaminesas Strawberry Quik, thus making them more appealing to children. The story was widely reported in the media, but no cases of children using flavored meth have been verified.

Drug scare

Fox News reported that drug dealers were using pop rocks to disguise the taste of meth and market it to children.
Emails began to circulate, claiming that meth was being disguised as candy and given to unsuspecting children. Snopes has reported that while colored crystal meth exists, and flavored meth may exist, there is no evidence of it being given to children. It is notable to point out that drug dealers seek out clients with a regular source of income, which precludes many children.
In 2008, the BBC reported that police in Oxfordshire, England, had warned over 80 schools of the risk of Strawberry meth, before considering it a hoax.

Existence of colored or flavored meth

Sometimes meth labs will try to brand their crystal meth product by coloring it in order to make it seem unique and to give it more market appeal.[4] Police and drug enforcement officials have conjectured that the idea for "strawberry meth" may have come from such a process.
Law enforcement and treatment providers in Nevada and California have reported the distribution and/or use of flavored methamphetamine.[5][6]
Strawberry flavored meth was seized in an apartment in Carson City, Nevada in January 2007.

Qatar Unveils 5 Solar Stadiums for 2022 World Cup

In its efforts to win the bid to host the 2022 FIFA world Cup, Qatar has announced plans to build five stadiums. In fact Qatar 2022 has even released the concept plans for the design of these proposed stadiums. Designed by Albert Speer & Partner GmbH, these proposed stadium designs display striking and dramatic looks but also incorporate state-of-the-art technology in an effort to stand out from the crowd bidding to host this popular tournament. These proposed designs were unveiled to the world at ‘Sport Accord’, the world’s largest sporting convention in Dubai.

Each one of the stadiums has either been inspired by a specific element of Qatari culture and tradition, or acts as a symbol to the rest of the world of the relationship that Qatar shares with the competing nations. What is more, the structures will make the most of solar technology to serve the power requirements. Using innovative climate control technology, temperatures within the stadiums are set to stay below 28°C, despite the nation’s fierce heat, making the 2022 FIFA World Cup the first ever cooled outdoor sporting event.

What is more, Qatar 2022 has announced that post the world cup, many modular components of the stadiums no longer needed will be dismantled and shipped to other countries in order to promote football development.

Currently, AS&MP have presented designs for five football stadiums located across Qatar, two of which are adaptations of existing buildings. The proposed stadiums are as follows: The Al Rayyan Stadium is currently situated 20km northwest of the capital, Doha. Plans are to adapt the existing building, surrounding it in a membrane-like structure onto which will be projected match updates, tournament information and other filmic material. The plans also include doubling the seating capacity.

The second adaption will be the Al Gharafa stadium situated close to the city of Doha. The facade of the existing stadium is to be transformed into a vivid explosion of color and the seating capacity will be doubled. Al Shamal stadium will be a brand new stadium with a capacity for up to 45,120 people.

Proposed to be situated in north of Qatar, the design of this stadium has been inspired by the traditional local fishing boats of the Gulf, ‘dhows’. Al Wakrah is another brand new stadium that is more than a stadium, in fact it is proposed to be a huge sports complex complete with multi-purpose hall, themed swimming-pool, spa zone and shopping mall alongside the obvious sports facilities.

Finally, is the Al Khor stadium (another brand new one), that will boast of a seashell-inspired asymmetrical structure set in landscaped gardens and with a capacity to hold 45,330 football fans. Besides being able to watch more than one match per day, all stadiums will be linked to the brand new metro system allowing fans to travel from one stadium to another through public transport. Qatar will have to wait till December 2010 for FIFA will make their final decision as to which of the 11 bidding nations are to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
